Growth Of Your Most Valuable Asset

Regardless of how advanced tools and processes become, people remain a company’s most valued asset. Train them well. TRS system operations training services include:

Designing Custom Training Programs

Grid operators and electric utilities leverage Total Reliability Solutions’ extensive knowledge of interconnected system operations to develop comprehensive training programs that meet their specific needs.

Developing Company-Specific Course Materials

TRS develops entry, intermediate, and advanced level training courses for System Operations personnel. TRS creates custom training materials for entities to own and offers packages that include course delivery.

Providing Instructor-
Led Training

TRS is recognized by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation as a continuing education provider that adheres to the NERC CE Program Criteria.

See TRS course descriptions below.

TRS Training Courses

The courses below are recognized by the North American Reliability Corporation as approved learning activities. Students that complete these courses may be credited with Continuing Education Hours (CEH).

SOL & IROL TRAINING (8 CEH)

This class reviews recent changes to the NERC IRO & TOP Standards that affect how System Ops staff respond to SOL and IROL exceedances in the Operations Horizon; explains what an SOL is and what it means to exceed one; defines acceptable system performance in the pre- and post-Contingent state; describes how automatic mitigation schemes can be used to mitigate unacceptable system performance; explains how ratings and limits are established; identifies the operational tools and processes that System Operators typically rely upon to analyze system performance; and demonstrates how System Ops staff are expected to respond to SOL and IROL exceedances.

Intro to Critical Thinking for Operational Decision-Making (8 CEH)

This class introduces a critical thinking framework and techniques that can be used by System Operations personnel to make more effective, efficient decisions in the Same-day and Real-time Operations Horizons.

BUILDING HABITS TO ACHIEVE OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE (8 CEH)

This class explains what habits are, how they are formed, and how they affect our operational decisions. It also introduces five habits to help System Operators achieve operational goals and objectives in a more efficient, effective manner.

Note: The Intro to Critical Thinking for Operational Decision-Making class is a prerequisite to this course.

IMPROVED OPS DECISION MAKING - RECOGNIZING AND CONTROLLING COGNITIVE BIASES (8 CEH)

This class explains what cognitive biases are, why they exist and how they affect our ability to think rationally. It also introduces critical thinking techniques that can be applied to help control cognitive biases and improve operational performance.

Note: The Intro to Critical Thinking for Operational Decision-Making class is a prerequisite to this course.

USE OF TIME-SYNCHRONIZED MEASUREMENTS IN THE REAL-TIME OPERATIONS HORIZON (8 CEH)

This class provides an introduction to synchrophasor technology, describes the value it can provide in the Real-Time Ops Horizon, and demonstrates how grid operators and electric utilities can use synchrophasor-based apps to improve wide-area situational awareness and grid reliability.
